Mt. Washington--and a Whole Bunch of Snow

Mt. Washington: A peak found off of I-90 before hitting the summit of Snoqualmie Pass.

I've gone on this hike twice before only to come down defeated. Once at night with a group who didn't want to go far and once in the middle of winter where we had to turn around before it got dark. It peaks at about 4800 feet above sea level. However, you start at about 1200 feet. All in all that is a 3600 foot elevation gain. There are two routes on this trail...the regular route and the alt. (we decided that meant altitude because you gained a lot of altitude in a short distance) route. To save time we chose the alt. route. My friend Travis said it made hime feel like he was "climbing Everest". Not quite accurate since Everest peaks out at about 28,028 feet, but we still had a good time nonetheless. We completed this hike (supposedly 11 miles--but probably less because we took the alt. route) in about 5 hours, summiting in about 2 1/2 hours (also not too bad since my hiking book suggests you give yourself 8 hours).
